Towards Understanding the Qur’aan

Towards  Understanding  the  Qur’aan

“The  person  who  is  only  able  to  recite  the  Veda,  but  does  not  understand  its  meaning,  is  like  a  post  (sthaanu)  or  a  mere  load-bearer (bhaarahaara);  but  he  who  understands  the  meaning  will  attain  to  all  good  here  and  hereafter,  being  purged  of  sins  by  knowledge.

“Words  simply  learnt  by  rote,  but  not  understood,  will  not  enlighten  when  uttered,  just  as  fuel,  be  it  ever  so  dry,  will  not  blaze  if  it  is  put  into  that  which  is  not  fire.”

The Quran is an Andragogic communication

February 23, 2011

The Quran is an Andragogic communication – Adult focussed.

Nabi was an Andragogue – adult educator.

BUT we/they have reduced through the “madresa” the Quran to meaningless chanting by children.

How many muslims (South Africa) make the Quran an “object of Lifelong Study”, in Arabic, if not then in English.

Did u pack a Quran+ commentary when u went on holiday.

Islam AND Muslims Without Borders! Without Apartheid Walls, Passes…

February 23, 2011

Islam AND Muslims Without Borders! Without  Apartheid  Walls, Passes

Long overdue: we must  explore possibilities  at  unity, Islamic  multiculturalism,  universal  Islamic  citizenship  (today, as  yesterday, rival, sectarian theological-political-economic  groups  have  dragged  the  heartlands of  Islam  in  a  downward  spiral  of  mutual  murder, bombing  each  others  masjids  during  Friday  congregational  prayers,  murdering  each  others  leaders).

Sadly  in  South  Africa  too it  is  NOT  enough  to  strive  to  be  a  Muslim, in  fact  this  is  held  against  one  by  the  powerful  in  muslim  society. In  order  to  participate  one  MUST  belong  to  a  theological-political-economic group. This  demands  that  i  have  to  limit  my  study  to  certain  scholars.

i  am  then  not  allowed to  draw  on  the  brilliant  contributions  of  scholars  from  other  schools, in  fact  i  must  condemn  these. This  is  UNISLAMIC  and  counterproductive. When  trying  to  create  and  exercise  universal  Islamic  citizenship  one  is  persecuted. Islamic  civilization  is  VAST, ours  is  an  immensely  rich  legacy. Our  fathers  and  mothers  from  Timbuktu, Mauritania, Libya, Iran, Iraq (sadly  bombed  to  destruction), Uganda, Mali, Tashkent, Bukhara, Muslims  in  the  Soviet  empire,  Muslims  in  China  ETC, ETC have  left  seminal  INTELLECTUAL  contributions  on  Arabic  language, literature, grammar, rhetoric, Tafsiir, Hadiith, ethics, ETC

THE  European  Union  is  creating  a  free – flow  zone  where  citizens  have  mobility, can  work  anywhere  ETC, but  WE  have  given  Islam  an  apartheid  structure.

Dear  fellow  Muslim, as  a  professional  in  the  corporate  world, in  the  professions, in  business you  do  not  experience  this  discrimination, you  would  go  to  the  mas’jid  to  perform  your  Namaaz. However  high  and  thick  walls  of  theological  discrimination  prevent  universalistic  ulama  from  contributing  to  Islam. we  are  denied  opportunity  to  contribute  to  Islam  through  lectures, radio  programs

Sadly, WE  MUSLIMS  AND  PARTICULARLY  OUR  LEADERSHIP  HAVE  SLAUGHTERED  TO  BITS  the  universality  of  Islam, the  very  ummah-ness  of  Islam-Iimaan.

ISLAM AND MUSLIMS Without Borders! Without  Apartheid  Walls, Passes

Dr. Taha Hussein (Marhum)

Alternative Madrasa:

calls  muslims   to  take   an   active,   vibrant,  self-critical…      ACADEMIC   AND   INTELLECTUAL  INTEREST   in   islam

calls   upon   parents   to   take  an   active  interest   in the  islamic   education   and   intellectualization   of  their  children.

The   so-called   islamic   school  system  cannot,   will  never,   and   is   genetically   UN-ABLE   to  deliver  an  islamic   EDUCATION,   INTELLECTUALIZATION…

The   darul  ulooms   are   intellectual   sewers,  sources  of   a  hate   pandemic   that   is   mutilating   the  umma   and   humanity  at  large  compare   the   intellectual   culture  of   the   Harvards,   Oxfords,   UCTs…,   with  the   darul  ulooms,   anti-ilms   masquerading   as   ulama  have   NO  grasp   of   curriculum,  didactics,  sociology   of  education….

i   “present”   the   late (marhoom)   egyptian   intellectual   DR.  Taha   Hussein.
His   autobiography   “THE   DAYS”   gives   an  insight   into   egyption  life,   the  education  system,   and  the  individuals   thirst   for  knowledge.
***
My   opinion   is  that  Dr.  Hussein   was   reacting   against  the   lathargy   created   by  the  ulama   of  azhar,  his   rightly   diagnosed   that   the   ulama  tradition   is   anto  intellectual,   and   opposite   to   interrogation.

It   is   impossible   to  live  in  under   an   “ulamaa”  created   order!  and   psychologically   damaging
the   first   volume  of   “The   Days”   is  called   “an   Egyptian   Childhood”   is/was   punblished   by  Heineman   in   the  African  Writers   Series.

“The   Days”   is   suitable  for  upper  high  school,   university   students,   parents,   excellent   for   holiday   family   reading   AND   DISCUSSION.
