“The person who is only able to recite the Veda, but does not understand its meaning, is like a post (sthaanu) or a mere load-bearer (bhaarahaara); but he who understands the meaning will attain to all good here and hereafter, being purged of sins by knowledge.
“Words simply learnt by rote, but not understood, will not enlighten when uttered, just as fuel, be it ever so dry, will not blaze if it is put into that which is not fire.”
